The Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) is hosting the 2012 Illinois Pork Expo Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Peoria Civic Center and Four Points by Sheraton. This is the 29th consecutive year IPPA will hold the convention in Peoria.  The expo has the largest pork-specific trade show in the state.

“Navigating Through Rough Waters,” is the theme of this year’s convention.  The expo is ideal for anyone with an interest in the pork industry. 

Wednesday, Feb. 1, is dedicated to educational seminars from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Topics include vitamin D deficiency in pigs; pork exports and global issues; domestic market outlook and risk management strategies; and environmental regulations.  At 1:30 p.m. Feb. 1, Emery Moorehead of the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears, will deliver the keynote speech.  

The trade show, with 153 booths showcasing the latest in pork production products, services and technology, is open from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 31 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 1.  Media hospitality is available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 31 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 in room 134 at the Civic Center.   

The expo is open to the public.  Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 10-18.  Admission is free for all IPPA members. 

The Illinois Pork Producers Association is an agricultural trade association representing more than 2,900 pork producers throughout state.  IPPA is comprised of county pork producer organizations in more than 20 counties throughout Illinois.  Its mission is to provide the pork producer with services that enhance profitability and consumer preference for pork.  The group contributes more than $1.7 billion and more than 7,800 jobs to the state’s economy.
