Peoria Civic Center Authority Board January Meeting

 

February 3rd (Peoria, IL) – The Peoria Civic Center Authority Board met on Thursday, January 23rd at 4pm at the Peoria Civic Center. The meeting opened with the approval of the minutes from the December meeting and the approval of the consent agenda.

 

SMG General Manager of the Peoria Civic Center, Jim Wetherington, then gave his report which included information on events held in December. Wetherington reported that the Peoria Civic Center was proud to donate time, labor and or space to 6 large scale events that were put on for the benefit of the community. These events included the Peoria Journal Star Christmas sing and the Salvation Army’s Share the Spirit. Other major events included the Greater Peoria Farm Show, which takes up more square footage at the Peoria Civic Center than any other annual event. The theater was host to Mamma Mia, a Broadway classic which saw two nights of near sold out crowds. The Peoria Ballet Nutcracker was also hosted in the theater during the month of December, increasing their attendance by adding a third show.

Megan Pedigo, Assistant Director of Marketing for the Peoria Civic Center, reported that the Peoria Civic Center was featured on the Pollstar Magazine’s Top 200 Arena list for 2013. The Arena ranked 174th in the world and 97th in the nation based on the number of tickets sold in 2013. The Peoria Civic Center Theater was also recognized on the Pollstar Magazine Top 100 Theater list, ranking 70th in the world and 52nd in the nation. Venues Today Magazine also released a list of top theaters in the nation in 2013 based on gross ticket sales. The Venues Today Magazine list ranked the Peoria Civic Center Theater as third in the nation.

 

The finance committee reported that during the month of November the Peoria Civic Center hosted 96 event days, which was 32 more than budgeted and 49,044 people attended events in the facility. The finance committee also reported that during the month of December the Peoria Civic Center hosted 66 event days, which was 5 more than budgeted and 47,444 people attended events in the facility.

 

It was also reported that ticketed events held at the Peoria Civic Center in the month of November generated $ 2,729,563 in economic impact for the community and events held in the month of December generated another $ 981,796 in economic impact.
