PCCA April Meeting

April 28th (Peoria, IL) – The Peoria Civic Center Authority Board met on Thursday, April 24th 2014 at the Peoria Civic Center. The meeting opened with the approval of the minutes from the March meeting and the approval of the consent agenda.
SMG General Manager of the Peoria Civic Center, Jim Wetherington, then gave his report which included information on events held in March and April of 2014. In addition to the successful IHSA March Madness tournament and Experience, the Peoria Civic Center held a number of events geared towards teenagers- including the Hunter Hayes ‘We’re Not Invisible Tour’ on March 27th and The Believe Christ In Youth Conference March 29th. The beginning of April was an extremely busy time for the Peoria Civic Center, hosting 8 events in 9 days. Those events included two sold out shows of the Blue Man Group, The Experience Hendrix Tour and the Jillian Michaels ‘Maximize Your Life’ Tour. Community events included the Peoria Symphony Orchestra’s American Classics with Béla Fleck and the Red Cross Heartland Hero’s banquet featuring country superstar Sara Evans. Also, SMG brought the Professional Bull Riders to Peoria for a two nights.
The finance committee reported that during the month of March the Peoria Civic Center hosted 63 event days, which was 3 more than budgeted and 99,788 people attended events in the facility. It was also reported that ticketed events held at the Peoria Civic Center in the month of March generated close to $5 million dollars in economic impact for the community.
The Mission statement of the Peoria Civic Center is to be a catalyst for improving the quality of life and economic vitality in our area by hosting diverse events that are enjoyed and supported by all segments of the general public. The Peoria Civic Center will operate as a business enterprise consistent with sound industry practices, financial principles and in an open and responsive manner.
The next Peoria Civic Center Authority Board Meeting will be held on May 22nd at the Peoria Civic Center in room 405.
