Peoria Civic Center Authority Board July Meeting
July 28th 2014 (Peoria, IL) – The Peoria Civic Center Authority Board met on Thursday, July 24th at the Peoria Civic Center. The meeting opened with the approval of the minutes from the June meeting and the approval of the consent agenda.
SMG General Manager of the Peoria Civic Center, Jim Wetherington, then gave his report which included information on events held in June and July 2014. The Peoria Civic Center’s flexible space was utilized for the Women of Duck Dynasty in June, using the ballroom to create a more intimate atmosphere for guests. The variety of spacing options at the Peoria Civic Center has opened the door to the possibility of more book signing and author Q and A sessions in the future. The theater was host to Jackson Browne and Ray LaMontagne along with the final two dance recitals for this season. The Peoria Civic Center was also host to the Illinois State Dental Society Foundation’s 2014 Mission of Mercy in late June where 1,000 volunteers assisted over 2,000 patients receive over $2 million dollars in free dental care. On July 12th Earth, Wind and Fire hit the stage in the arena and brought the house down. Many fans who attended the Earth, Wind and Fire show said it was the best show they have ever seen.
The Sales and Marketing Committee presented the Strategic Plan for fiscal year 2015, which begins September 1st 2014. The plan includes objectives aimed at achieving the four strategic set by the strategic planning committee. Those goals are: Host diverse events that are enjoyed and supported by all segments of the general public, Improve the economic vitality in our area as measured by current best practices in economic impact reporting, Provide a positive customer experience by engaging with customers in an open and responsive manner, and Operate the facility in a responsible manner that allows the Peoria Civic Center to break even financially each fiscal year. The Peoria Civic Center Authority Board approved the plan unanimously.
The Finance Committee reported that during the month of June the Peoria Civic Center hosted 37 event days, which was eight more than budgeted and 22,382 people attended events in the facility. It was also reported that ticketed events held at the Peoria Civic Center in the month of May generated around $576,000 dollars in economic impact for the community. The Finance Committee also presented the Operating and Capital Budget for fiscal year 2015. The budget will be voted on by the Peoria Civic Center Authority Board during the August meeting.
