LEGENDS OF BROADWAY

BROADWAY LEGENDS TO APPEAR AT PEORIA CIVIC CENTER THEATER

Longtime star of CBS’ Guiding Light to headline

February 13, 2015, Peoria, IL—Ron Raines (Tony Award and three-time Emmy Award Nominee), known to millions of Americans as the beguiling, villainous Alan Spaulding on CBS’ Guiding Light comes to Peoria Civic Center Theater in LEGENDS OF BROADWAY. Raines joins forces with legendary Broadway Musical Director, Don Pippin for a delightfully intimate program featuring some of Broadway’s most beloved songs spun together with amusing personal anecdotes and heartfelt tales from a lifetime on Broadway.

Featuring Broadway talents as legendary as the songs they perform, LEGENDS OF BROADWAY showcases Raines’ mellifluous, soaring baritone, with maestro Pippin at the piano. Together they bring the great American Musical Theater Songbook to life while offering a unique glimpse into the lives of heralded Broadway veterans. LEGENDS OF BROADWAY features the music of composers who served as their own lyricists including Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Frank Loesser, and Jerry Herman, as well as saluting the music of the great composers who have collaborated with many lyricist partners such as Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Jules Styne, Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein, John Kander, and Alan Menken among others.

LEGENDS OF BROADWAY will be presented at the SMG managed Peoria Civic Center Theater on March 27th, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Ticket prices start at $25. Tickets go on sale Monday, February 16th at 10am and will be available at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster locations, or by phone at 1 (800) 745-3000.

RON RAINES—Dividing his time between the stage, screen and recording studio, Ron Raines has established himself as one of Broadway's most venerable leading men. Raines recently thrilled Broadway audiences with his Tony Award nominated performance as Ben Stone in the much-heralded revival of Sondheim’s Follies. In 2014, Raines appeared on Broadway as the iconic Daddy Warbucks in the revival of Annie, Joseph Pulitzer in Disney’s hit musical Newsies, and Isidor Straus in the critically acclaimed Lincoln Center revival of Maury Yeston’s Titanic. Additional performances on Broadway include Billy Flynn in Chicago, Gaylord Ravenal in Show Boat, and Nick Longworth in Teddy & Alice. Raines’ prolific career includes appearances nationally and internationally in productions of South Pacific, Annie, Kiss Me, Kate, Can-Can, The King and I, Brigadoon, Oklahoma!, Carousel, The Pajama Game, Guys and Dolls, A Little Night Music, Kismet, and Man of La Mancha. On screen, his 15-year tenure as Alan Spaulding on CBS’ Guiding Light earned him three Emmy Award and Soap Opera Digest Award nominations. His singing has been featured in four PBS Great Performances national telecasts and an Evening at Pops! telecast with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops. Last season, Raines guest-starred on the hit CBS’ dramas Person of Interest and Elementary. A prolific discography includes nearly thirty recordings, among them successful solo albums Broadway Passion and So In Love With Broadway; thirteen complete cast recordings, and the Grammy Award nominated 2012 recording of Sondheim’s Follies with Bernadette Peters, Elaine Paige, Jan Maxwell and Danny Burstein. Raines has appeared with virtually every major symphony and pops orchestra, and in 2014, joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera for The Merry Widow.

DONALD PIPPIN—For over five decades, Don Pippin has been a mainstay on Broadway and guest conducting with major symphony and Pops orchestras. Pippin has earned the Tony Award, Emmy Award, Drama Desk Award, and a Golden Record during an illustrious career. Maestro Pippin has conducted, musical directed and served as vocal arranger for more than two dozen Broadway shows including the historical original production and 2006 revival of A Chorus Line (longest running musical in Broadway history at its closing), Applause (Lauren Becall and Len Cariou), Cabaret (Joel Grey), Dear World (Angela Lansbury), Jerry’s Girls (Dorothy Louden, Chita Rivera, Leslie Uggams), La Cage aux Folles (original production), Mack and Mabel (Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters), Mame (Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur), Oliver! (Davy Jones), Seesaw (Tommy Tune), and Woman of the Year (Lauren Becall). Foremost among Pippin’s many important collaborations, have been those with composer Jerry Herman. After their first encounter on the Broadway musical Ben Franklin in Paris, the team of Herman and Pippin went on to collaborate on seven original works for the Broadway stage including industry mega-hits Mame and La Cage aux Folles. A fixture in America’s great concert halls, Pippin also held the position of Musical Director for ten years at New York City’s grand Radio City Music Hall.
