Peoria Civic Center exploring development options for an Urban Park at Fulton and Jefferson corner

 

Monday, March 21st 2016 (Peoria, IL)- The Peoria Civic Center/SMG announced today that they are exploring development options for the corner of Fulton Street and Jefferson Avenue as an urban park. This area, adjacent to Peoria’s City Hall, is the site of the annual PNC Winterfest, which features an outdoor ice skating rink and ice slide from late November - January. By upgrading the space from an open lot to an urban park, the Peoria Civic Center would be able to provide additional outdoor events throughout the year.

 

“Building on the success of PNC Winterfest, an urban park in the heart of downtown would give us the opportunity to create even more unique events for the community,” said Peoria Civic Center/SMG General Manager Anne Clayton. “We have received proposals from several local architectural firms and are excited to begin exploring options for this space.”

 

The project is just beginning to take shape but is expected to move quickly over the next few months. “We appreciate the community’s support and patience as we work to create a fun unique space for all to enjoy,” said Anne Clayton. 

The site on the corner of Fulton Street and Jefferson Avenue is currently home to the City of Peoria Police and Fire memorial. The Peoria Civic Center is honored to be home to the memorial and will take all steps necessary to ensure that the memorial is not obstructed in any way.
