About Ray Long and Highway 61
Fire & the Blues... Close your eyes for a minute and you might think Stevie Ray is alive and hanging out in central Illinois. Named after U.S. Route 61 –the Blues Highway running from Minnesota through Memphis to Louisiana – Ray Long writes songs straight from experience. “To play the blues, you have to have lived the blues,” says Long. He should know…with nearly 20 years musical experience, he used to practice four hours a day, three days a week, before going to his full-time, second-shift job at a metal fabrication plant. These days, he's enjoying opportunities to play with legendary musicians like Night Ranger, Saving Abel and Frank Hannon. But his dream is just getting started. Someday, he hopes to headline his own progressive blues tour. With aspirations of being the “best blues band since B.B. King,” Ray Long and the Highway 61 Band puts their pain & their passion into every guitar lick. Long says, “Music is the first love I ever had…I can play in front of two people or 2,000 people just the same.”
