Attention All Media:
The 13th annual Miss You Can Do It pageant will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria Illinois.
This unique pageant was conceived and established by Miss Iowa 2008, Abbey Curran. The contestants are girls ranging in age from 4 to 25 who were born with physical challenges.
Abbey was born with Cerebral palsy, but this did not stop her from becoming the first disabled person to compete in the Miss USA pageant.
By taking part in beauty pageants, which disabled people are historically excluded from, Abbey was imbued with an empowering confidence and the belief that she could do anything if she was willing to try.
Her goal was to provide other young girls and women born with physical challenges with the means to attain the same positive feelings. The Miss You Can Do It pageant has achieved this that, year after year.
So successful that it became the subject of an HBO documentary in which Abbey is featured, the pageant is an aspirational, heartwarming event unlike anything you’ve witnessed before.
To secure press access to Abbey, backstage access prior to the event, or interviews with contestants, please call: 309-525-5545.
Tickets are available to the public on ticketmaster.com or at the Peoria Civic Center box office until one hour before the show.
