About The CocoLoco Band

The Coco Loco Band consists of seasoned musicians from the Central Illinois area who are well versed in all genres of music.  Coco Loco is more than a band, it is a feeling, a state of mind and an attitude.

While the band lineup may change occasionally, the message and the energy remain true to the beginnings of the band over a decade ago. Over the years, Coco Loco has had the pleasure of having over fifty talented professional musicians in its stage lineup.

The band began with, and is guided by Lead Vocalist and Acoustic Guitarist Tadd “TJ” Johnson who’s musical roots go back to Central Illinois, listening to Country and Western music on his parents car radio as a child, then was captivated as a teenager and into his twenties by the classic rock guitar sounds of iconic bands and artists such as Boston, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, and AC/DC.  In the 80’s, TJ was influenced and mesmerized by the pop centered bands of the newly founded MTV music video age.

From there TJ moved on to Chicago, where he was introduced to the Blues and learned how to command and entertain an audience. TJ was mentored by some of finest musicians and performers as he led a nightly show at the Baja Beach Club on the shores of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier.

TJ became intrigued and immersed in the trop-rock and reggae genres of artists like Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley and others after spending his relaxation time at one of his favorite venues in Chicago, The Cactus, and ultimately a couple of trips to the island of Curacoa. TJ brings this combined musical exposure as well as his natural and easy going sense of humor as the leader of The Coco Loco Band, who’s energy and message continue to entertain and attract audiences wherever they may play.

Lead Guitarist Danny Galletti- when not fronting his own project, The Smokers Blues Band, with fellow band members Winston Dunbar and Tony Mata, Danny has been lending a hand and some lightning fast guitar licks to Coco Loco for many years. Born and raised in Peoria, Dan Galletti received his first guitar at the age of 7 as a gift from his father. He later became fascinated with the British blues sound of the late 60’s which fueled his interest in players like Eric Clapton and David Gilmour. After earning the Louis Armstrong Jazz award in high school, Dan went on to perform with several bands over the years and record two original solo albums. As a key songwriter, Dan focuses on crafting compositions with rhythmic and melodic hooks. Strictly self-taught, he strives to play guitar with expression and tasteful restraint; choosing his notes carefully while paying special heed to tone. With a vocal reminiscent of Daryl Hall, Dan also brings a “blue-eyed” soul element to the show.

Bassist/Keybordist Winston Dunbar-Playing piano for over 35 years, he was originally inspired by the ragtime of Scott Joplin. He soon became influenced by acts such as Captain and Tennille, The Blues Brothers, and “The Commitments” movie which helped him to develop his eclectic style. Winston is also a master of the Hammond B3 organ.  Winston plays bass guitar as well and anchors the Coco Loco groove on many shows.

Drummer/Percussionist Tony Mata-Keeping the band in time, Tony Mata brings an innovative and refreshing perspective to the show. Having acquired his first drum set at the age of 5, he was strongly influenced by his Mexican roots while studying music under the tutelage of his father’s band. An accomplished percussionist as well, his influences include Santana and Los Lonely Boys. Tony is passionate about his rhythmic art form. His creative style provides an ear candy spotlight with a Latin flair to the stage.

Keyboardist/Saxophone-BJ Price-BJ keeps extremely busy both teaching music and performing with Coco Loco as well as another Central Illinois band, The Corn Wolves.  BJ has an eclectic and wide ranging musical background. He is a master of multiple musical instruments and his genres including Funk, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Metal, Progressive Metal, Progressive Rock, Rock, Classical. He has been playing since he was 4 years old. BJ’s parents would have the radio playing and BJ soon started playing the melodies to the songs on the radio. BJ’s musical influences growing up were Metallica and Dream Theater
